Who we are:
The Huon Valley Alphabet Mafia ASSOCIATION are a bunch of people (queer and not) who love and care for queer youth. We are made up of parents, youth workers, friends, allies, and young people.
The Alphabet Mafia GROUP are a bunch of chaotic, young, queer people, adult mentors (queer and not), allies, and friends who gather together once a week to eat, drink, and be LOUD*!
We make art, create mayhem, sing, dance, laugh, play table top games, build jigsaw puzzles, read, nap, support each other, share resources and information, and just have a really fun time.
We have a DISCORD server to chat and coordinate, and a MINECRAFT realm to create and play.
Our Minecraft realm is built on bedrock edition (playable on Windows 10 and 11, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and Windows Mobile) and is permanently online and accessible.
To join our discord server or minecraft realm you'll need to register with us and attend at least ONE in-person meet.
You should come along one day.
(*Bring ear plugs, I'm not kidding about the loud part)
The Mission (what we do):
The Huon Valley Alphabet Mafia provides a secure and welcoming environment for queer youth in the Valley.
Our main focus is fostering social connections, but we also offer young people the chance to encounter positive role models, receive mentorship, gain access to resources, and find understanding and support, all of which enhance wellbeing and community involvement.
We have a small (but growing) private library for Mafia members, and their family & friends, so that they can see themselves, their friendships, and relationships, represented in media. There are also educational, informative, resources for people trying to learn and figure things out.
Amazing things happen when people come together.
The Vision (what we dream):
To grow our library to include a larger range of media which allows our youth to see themselves represented, answer questions, and understand themselves, in order to increase their wellbeing. The second goal of the library is to provide access to material that helps parents navigate their child's gender or sexual identity.
To continue to hold space for our queer youth to grow into themselves, that they may have the confidence to thrive, proudly, in our community.
To participate in community events, giving the Huon Valley an opportunity to engage with our young people in a positive and respectful way.
And, ultimately, to have our very own dedicated, physical, space that provides access to resources and services to all of our young people; both queer and their allies.

The Huon Valley Alphabet Mafia Inc is an Incorporated Association that oversees the running of the group and any other work we do. We are 100% Volunteer run & (currently) funded by me, Sarah.

The best way to support us at the moment is getting the word out! If you have a space where you can display a poster, or hand out flyers, you can print some off yourself via This Link or get in touch with Sarah who will load you up with flyers and handy cards to distribute.
If you'd rather your contribution be a bit more subtle, you could help out with catering, or help out with grant writing and submissions.
Do you have a cool skill that you'd like to impart onto our young people? We love our creative allies! Talk to Sarah about hosting a workshop with our crew.
If you want to financially support us, you can do something as simple as a Woolies voucher or a one off donation!
